About St Nicholas School

Illness, First Aid and Medicines
In this section:

Illness

Please do not send children to school if they are showing signs of illness. First, the school does not have the resources to provide 'care and nursing' facilities, which means that they cannot be cared for as well as at home. Second, many illnesses are infectious and other children may be affected.

Because both of these are bad for the children, if in the school's opinion a child is not well enough to be at school, the parents or guardians will be contacted and asked to collect the child.

First aid and accidents

A number of staff at school have first aid qualifications. In the event of a child having an accident, first aid will be administered. If, in our opinion, the child needs to go home or to hospital for further treatment, we will contact parents or another named contact to collect the child. If parents are not available, and the accident is considered an emergency, the school will call an ambulance, or a member of staff will take the child for treatment.

Medicines
Members of the administrative team deal with most day to day health matters, but do not normally administer medicine to children. Parents with children suffering from a long-term illness or condition requiring permanent medication or special care should discuss their child's needs with the headteacher. Arrangements regarding medication are detailed in notes given to parents when children start school.
Emergency contact details

We will take emergency contact details when a child is first admitted to the school. These will be used in an emergency.

Please remember to tell the school immediately of any changes to these details as and when they occur
