About St Nicholas School

Uniform
We are proud of our traditions at St Nicholas and one of these is the wearing of school uniform. It is a simple, inexpensive, but effective one and we expect every child to wear it. School sweatshirts, jumpers, polo shirts and ties can be purchased from Shepperton Sports in the High Street, together with T-shirts and shorts for P E. Other items should be easily available from chainstores. Parents also operate a 'Good as New' uniform stall after school on dates to be announced in the newsletter.

PE and Games wear

General PE:

Blue cotton shorts and white T-shirt are required for P E. Children usually work barefoot for indoor PE lessons but plimsolls (Note 3) or trainers are needed for outdoor games. A tracksuit (preferably in a plain, dark colour) is also desirable for outdoor games lessons during cold weather.
Football Football boots are usually only required by members of the football team squad
Swimming: When your child's year group swims, a costume and towel will be required (and a cap is recommended if the child has long hair).
Games bag: A suitable bag will be required in which to keep PE clothes and shoes.
Labelling: Please make sure that all articles of clothing are clearly marked with the child's name.
Jewellery
No jewellery may be worn except watches, plain studs for pierced ears, medical alert bracelets and essential religious emblems. The County directs that children should not wear these items (including earrings) during physical education lessons including swimming and games. If a child's ears are to be pierced, parents are requested to have this carried out only at the beginning of the summer holidays to avoid missing physical education.
Hair 'wraps' with beads should not be worn. Make-up, including 'temporary' tattoos and nail varnish is not allowed.
Teachers will use their discretion, depending on the activity, as to the suitability of a child's clothing, shoes and jewellery and ask for items to be removed or, in some circumstances, bar children from certain activities.

Personal belongings

The school cannot accept responsibility for the loss of, or damage to, personal belongings. If found, unnamed items are treated as lost property.
If mobile 'phones are brought into school, they must be left in the school office for safe keeping and collected at the end of the day. They should not be kept in school bags or pockets.
Notes
1. Children in Reception classes are not required to wear a tie and may wear a 'polo' shirt with the school emblem.
2. Shoes should be worn, not boots. Shoes should have a 'sensible' heel height suitable for comfortable walking and running in the playground. Sling-back shoes and open-toe sandals are not acceptable.
3. Children in Reception classes will not need plimsolls at the beginning of the school year.
