| Parental Involvement and
Consultation |
|
Parental help and support is one of the
essential ingredients of effective educaton.
At St Nicholas, we try to keep parents
fully informed about their childrens'
progress, and involved in their education
wherever possible.

Informing parents
|
|
We try to keep parents well informed about
all events taking place in school, through
a variety of channels:
- SNS News is a short newsletter
which contains upcoming events and
announcements; it is handed to each
child to take home every Thursday.
- The SNS Website. The website
- which you are now viewing - has
been rebuilt recently to help parents
find out more about the school and
to provide easier access to a wide
range of information. It includes
a calendar, document library, and
lots of basic information about the
school and its activities. SNS News
will be posted on the website as well
as provided in paper copy.
- Letters and notices. Wherever
necessary, we write to parents with
larger items of news or issues that
deserve parental response.
- School Reports,
parent
consultation evenings, the annual
Celebration
evening, and the annual
Governors' report and meeting
are all described below.

|
|
| Meeting
class teachers |
| The staff are always willing to talk to parents
if they make appointments that are mutually
convenient. The headteacher is only too pleased
to discuss issues with parents and appointments
can be made through the school office. |
|
|
| Parent-Teacher
association (PTA) |
| We have a very active Parent Teacher Association
and every parent automatically becomes a member.
Each year a list of the names of the current
Officers and committee members is published.
The PTA has raised thousands of pounds to
keep our school well supplied with valuable
equipment and we hope that parents will participate
fully in all its activities. For more information
about the PTA and its activities, visit the
PTA pages. |

|
| Parents'
Evenings |
|
In about October, February and July, progress
and target information is shared at Parents'
Evenings. Every parent is invited to talk
to their child's class teacher, and to
discuss any issues that arise as well
as to consult on targets. Parents' evenings
early in the year also include information
on teaching methods and homework arrangements
for the new year.
|
|
|
| Celebration
Evening |
| The annual Celebration Evening, at the end
of the Summer term, is the evening when children
can show off all the work they have done during
the year. Parents are welcome to visit, and
a full programme of events is always arranged.
|
|
|
| School reports |
|
At the end of each Summer Term a written
report of their childrens' progress is
sent to all parents. The report gives
details of progress in all areas of the
curriculum, as well as comments on
behaviour
and attendance. We welcome comments on
the form and content of the reports, which
we are always trying to improve.

|
| Annual
Governors' Report and Meeting for Parents |
| The Governors provide an annual report for
parents, and arrange an annual meeting for
discussion. Further details are given on the
governors'
pages. |
