About St Nicholas School

Parent Helpers

Individually, many parents are welcomed into the school to assist the staff and children in a variety of ways. If you feel you could help, please contact us. We also have a number of retired persons coming into the school to help and we would welcome others who would also like to be involved.

Note that in line with national policy to protect children, all staff and volunteer helpers have to be checked with the Criminal Records Bureau; fortunately, the checks are not onerous. Further details are given below.

Classroom Assistance

Teachers welcome assistance in the classroom, particularly for help in early years reading and in assisting with other activities.

Visits

Increasingly stringent guidelines make it essential for children to be accompanied on school trips by more adults than ever before. Without parents to help, these trips - even as simple as a visit to the High Street to learn about local geography and mappping - cannot take place.

Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks

Most parents will be aware that it is now necessary for anyone with substantial contact with children and vulnerable adults to undergo a so-called 'CRB check' before they can help.

CRB checks are confidential, and the only information passed to the school is information essential to the protection of children. To make sure that we can call on willing volunteers, we ask anyone interested in helping in the school to complete the necessary form as soon as possible. Forms are available at the school office. Please check in even if you have already been CRB checked; increasingly tight guidance may well change the requirements placed on the school, and we may have to initiate our own check even if a previous check is still valid.
